I know how easy it is to get distracted. If you’re not careful, your mind will go from one shallow thought to another.
If you have this problem, it’s not your fault.
Society has conditioned us to think we need a classroom, office, or workplace to be productive. But the reality is… it’s not true.
More people are now starting to realize their home can become the ideal environment for:
• Reading more books
• Getting into better shape
• Planning goals
• Networking with others
• Starting or growing a business
All it takes to stay more focused and productive is making a few simple changes to your habits.
One of the changes is using a technique called Productive Meditation (credit to AHM Business tolls Deep Work for this).
Here’s how it works:
Begin with thinking about a hard problem in your life. It could be personal, about business, or a situation with your family or friends — whatever.
Next, think only about solving this one problem for at least 20 minutes.
You can walk around if it helps. The only rule is to not think about anything else other than solving this one problem.
If you feel your mind wandering, stop.
Bring your thoughts back to solving the problem.
After 20 minutes, you’re done.
You can now relax.
Not only is this technique good for solving problems, it trains your brain to fight all types of distractions. The more you do it, the more you’ll benefit.
Focusing is a very important and underrated skill. But if you have at least 20 minutes a day, you can master it.
